National Recreation Areas are managed by different federal agencies, including the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service.

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Montana, Wyoming

  • Allegheny National Recreation Area. Location: northwest Pennsylvania, and administered by the Forest Service as part of the Allegheny National Forest. [Official Site]
  • Amistad National Recreation Area. Location: southwest Texas, an area around the U.S. portion of International Amistad Reservoir, and administered by the National Park Service. [Official Site]

  • Arapaho National Recreation Area. Location: north central Colorado, home to five lakes/reservoirs (and which the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail passes through), and administered by the Forest Service as part of the Arapaho National Forest. [Official Site]

  • Datil Well Recreation Area. Location: west central New Mexico, near the Cibola National Forest, and administered by the Bureau of Land Management.
  • Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Location: along the border of western New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, and administered by the National Park Service. [Official Site]

  • Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Location: northeast Oregon and western Idaho, home to the deepest river gorge in North American, and administered by the Forest Service as part of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. [Official Site]

  • Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, New Jersey

  • Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. Location: north central Washington, administered by the National Park Service, along with the North Cascades National Park and nearby Ross Lake National Recreation Area. [Official Site]
  • Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Location: southern Nevada and northwest Arizona, containing two large reservoirs (Lake Mead and Lake Mohave) and the Hoover Dam, partially overlapping Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, and administered by the National Park Service. [Official Site]
  • Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Location: north Texas, created by the Sanford Dam, supplies water for 11 cities in the Texas panhandle, and administered by the National Park Service. [Official Site]

  • Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. Location: central east Minnesota, protecting 72-mile corridor along Mississippi River, including part that flows through Minneapolis and St. Paul, and administered by the National Park Service. [Official Site]

  • Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. Location: northern California, and divided into three units -- Whiskeytown, Shasta and Trinity.
